Here is this shining globe of hot gas located at aproximately 150 million kilometres from Earth. So what? I take it for granted and so do you. But what exactly is the Sun ? According to the scientists, it is a rather boring and normal star among the other stars in the known Universe. The Sun is made of hot gases, containing many of the same materials we find here on Earth (hydrogene, helium, calcium, sodium, magnesium etc), it could engulf 100 Earths and weighs 300.000 times the mass the of our Blue Planet. The first ray of light was born 4,5 billion years ago and it will take another 5 billion years untill the last ray is cast into the dark void, but not after the Sun scorches half of the solar system through the form of a Giant Red Star, ultimaltey colapsing into itself, creating a White Dwarf. So what? Is this really usefull information? Why should we care about this ? Why do we have to read or listen about this apparently boring info ? We have serious issues here down on Earth: banks, loans, cars, histerical neighbours, bad TV shows and discount coupons. Why should one raise its head from the swamp in order to look at something that even can't be looked at? It's not because the Sun will ultimately die in a few billion of years, it's because for us humans, it is mostly than anything a metaphore of our passing through this corner of existence. The Sun is the beggining, is the promise of a new tomorrow, it's the Maya, the Aztecs and all the great civilisations that saw it's divine nature, it's everything that hopes for the clouds to pass, it's the spoiled child of the Father Sky and Mother Earth, it lights the way for the confused, it's the bringer of knowledge and hater of sucumbed troglodytes. Dear friends, it's not a coincidence that I've decided to launch my blog now as it's a new beggining not only for me but for all of us that embrase change. Today, 21st of December at 12:04 was the Winter Solstice (Solstice is derived from Latin -> Sol (sun) and Sistere (to stand still)) in the Northern hemisphere. The Sun escapes the dark and each by each day untill 21st of June it warms again the Earth. Though it lasts only an instant, the Winter Solstice has an extremely powerfull simbolism spread throughout the world: rebirth, regeneration and reawakening. According to Wikipedia "the night of Winter Solstice, as seen from a northern sky, the three stars in Orion's Belt align with the brightest star in the eastern sky Sirius to show where the Sun will rise in the morning after winter solstice. Until this time, the Sun has exhibited since Summer Solstice a decreasing arc across the Southern sky. On winter solstice, the Sun ceases to decline in the sky and the length of daylight reaches its minimum for three days, during which the sun does not move on the horizon. After such a time, the Sun begins its ascent into the northern sky and days grow longer. Thus the interpretation by many cultures of a sun reborn and a return to light. This return to light is again celebrated at the vernal equinox, when the length of day equals that of night" . Instead of stuffing yourself like a hog in front of the TV and gossip about what you're gonna wear for New Year's Eve, welcome again the child into your heart and mind, spread out and reach within, let it be so you can be....
